Rehabilitation Services
Rehabilitation Services
Our rehabilitation service uses a multidisciplinary approach where nursing staff, specialists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, speech therapists, dieticians, exercise physiologists, psychologists, podiatrists, orthotists/prosthetists and pharmacists work together to ensure the best patient outcomes are achieved.
Mater Rehabilitation programs are provided at the Pimlico campus. Our rehabilitation programs include both overnight and day services.
Rehabilitation can be provided for a number of reasons which may include:
- Deconditioning following an illness or surgery
- Orthopaedic conditions such as following surgery or fracture
- Neurological conditions including those such as Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
To participate in rehabilitation, you require a referral from a Doctor. From there, we will complete an assessment face to face if you are in hospital or over the phone. We will gain information about your story and your condition and discuss your rehabilitation goals. When you are seen by the Doctor and allied health team, they will complete further assessments and talk to you about a rehabilitation plan.
Our state-of-the-art therapy gym allows you to spend dedicated time with your therapists to concentrate on specific components of their care and to improve confidence and safety for the return home if you are an inpatient.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
For information regarding Cardiac Rehabilitation please click here.
Our overnight rehabilitation program includes attending the rehabilitation gym as well as therapy on the ward. You will also have exercises, education and activities to practice outside of therapy times to work towards your goals.
We have regular meetings with the rehabilitation team to discuss your goals and progress and talk about discharge planning. You and your family will be involved in these discussions and there will be a member of staff available if you have questions about your rehabilitation plan and progress.
Our day therapy programs run Monday to Friday. On your first visit, we will talk to you about your rehabilitation plan and length of program. You will need to allow two hours for all your visits. You will see a variety of therapists based on your rehabilitation plans and goals. Sessions will include one-to-one therapy as well as group based.
